Minister Kirsten Keys, with the assistance of three other ministers, was recently able to help save the life of a pastor who suffered a Sudden Cardiac Arrest.

“Due to the physical exertion associated with performing CPR, we had to take turns and work in concert with one another to help our dear friend,” said Kirsten.

Kirsten became reacquainted with the life-saving skill of “hands-only” CPR during a class that she coordinated and hosted in conjunction with the Health & Wellness Ministry Team that she oversees at her church. The class was taught by our very own certified CPR instructor, Bill Odoms.

Despite the overwhelming emotion of the moment, Kirsten remained calm. “I overcame my fear, harnessed the strength of my emotions, and recalled the CPR technique I had learned. There was no AED available, so I knew we had to continue compressions until help arrived. Thankfully, I remembered the beat to Staying Alive,” says Kirsten.

“The York City EMS, Police, and Fire Department are to be commended for their exemplary service and expertise! Just the other day, I was able to visit with the pastor that I and others helped save. I am honored and humbled to have been used in such an incredible way,” says Minister Keys.

This is why we encourage everyone to learn CPR! You never know when you might be called upon to save a life.
