October was busy with many wonderful awareness, fundraising and educational events.
- October 7th we hosted our first Central PA community heart screening since October of 2021. This screening was held at Steelton-Highspire High School. We had over 150 young people screened and were able to identify some hidden heart issues. Everyone who attended learned CPR and thanks to UPMC who also provided an educational program called Think Before You Drink. It focused on the various energy drinks and supplements that are ingested and what the potential harm they can cause.
- October 14th we hosted our annual screening at King’s College in Wilke’s Barre. This event provided over 130 young people with a free screening. It also allows King’s Physician Assistant students to gain valuable clinical experience.
- October 25th our first ever SCAry Skate Night was a success! We had help from our friends at Americhoice Federal Credit Union and Harrisburg Roller Derby who handed out candy and volunteered to help with the event. During the event we provided CPR demos, handed out candy and information about upcoming events.
- October 30th was our first day at Carlisle High School with our new educational program Protecting Hearts, Saving Lives. This educational presentation provides high school students with the requirements to meet Act 7. They receive an educational presentation, hands-on CPR training and are quizzed at the end. We trained over 300 Seniors over 3 days and we will be going back in the Spring to teach the Junior class.
