Cumberland County is leading the way nationally with how we respond to and treat sudden cardiac arrest in our community!
We had the very first save with the 4 Minute City program, locally and nation-wide, on July 16! Lyall was on his daily walk and collapsed. Bystanders started CPR and called 911. Alan, a CARE team member who was within the 1-mile radius of the emergency, received an alert and grabbed his AED. Within a minute, he was on his way to provide the life-saving shock that saved Lyall’s life.
“My wife warned me not to go out and be active because it was so hot and humid,” Lehman says. It was 98 degrees that day. Like I usually do, I ignored her and I went to walk around the Winding Hills development. I was about a mile and a half into my walk and on a bridge crossing the stream. That’s pretty much the last thing I remember,” says Lyall.
Saving a life takes a village! We held an awards ceremony and celebration at the Upper Allen Fire Department to honor the many civilians, first responders, fire fighters, doctors, and
others involved in saving Lyall’s life. Avive’s Vice President of Strategy & Business Development Meir Berkman, said, “These devices are designed to be used by people who have never been trained on an AED. A patient’s best chance of survival is a nearby civilian who can help.”
